In the United States, on any given night, 750,000 individuals are homeless. For years 9 has been the average age of a homeless individual, but according to Youth Outreach International that age has now dropped to 6. Homeless youth have a death rate 11 times higher than other children. It has been estimated that 38% of all homeless individuals are children. According to the United Nations, worldwide approximately 47.5 million children are homeless. In the United States at least 380,000 children are homeless at some point in a given year.
